Judging from conversations we had with other teams, many people waited until they were uploading to write it out. I would highly recommend against that. You’re going to be exhausted and this is supposed to be the quick, concise pitch. You need a good night’s sleep to make that work.

The One-Sheet should have the title of your show and your team’s name at the top. In the first two drafts of my one-sheet I forgot that, and that does take up crucial space.

This is your barstool pitch (people call it an elevator pitch, but I’ve only ever given elevator pitches while sitting on a barstool). You want to immediately get to the point. What’s the premise of your show? The who-what-where-when-why should be immediately known within the first three sentences.

While we’re at it, yes, the one-sheet is ONLY ONE SHEET LONG. Not one-and-a-half pages, one page of text.

Show off what makes this work on web more than any other medium. Have you come up with ideas for supplemental content? Throw that in!

What are you trying to say with this show, if anything?

One more time, rephrased: Get to the point quick. Close it all out with a final statement of purpose for your show.

Don’t get cute, but it shouldn’t be boring, either. You’re trying to tell us why this will be entertaining! This should be well-written!

**NO PILOTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR VOTING IF RECEIVED AFTER THE DEADLINE!**

Additional Rules to Keep in Mind:

All footage must be shot within the 7 day period. No stock footage or footage shot or created at another time may be used.

Any type of video camera may be used, and there is no limit as to how many you may use during the shoot.

There is no limit to the amount of crew and cast you may use and the multiple roles they play on a team but no cast or crew member may be on more than one team.

ALL costs for production and submission must be born by the Team.

We at CTW are indemnified from any illegal actions (including breach of copyright) on the part of the participating teams.

The Pilot may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity; may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations; and may not contain any copyrighted elements (other than as owned by the Team).

Entries must be the original work of the Team and must not infringe third-party’s rights. Each team must secure releases for talent, crew, music and locations (and any other applicable releases).

Team retains full rights to content. CTW just requests that that teams allow their pilots to remain on the YouTube channel non-exclusively for a period of one year.

Still photographs are permitted, provided that the team has the rights to them.

As with music, pre-recorded sound effects are allowed, but you must have rights to use them.

CTW reserves the right to disqualify any pilot at our discretion.

My favorite part of working on Celebrate the Web from this side of the side of the Twitter account has been seeing the progress all the teams have made in just such a few (long) days. None the less, all the TwitPic’s and Instagram’s of their productions make me wish I was back onset.

First of all: Jenni, Logan and I were so happy with the amazing response that we got and a wealth of submissions for this go ’round of Celebrate the Web. If this were any other year, and we were operating under the same constraints as the previous iterations of this festival we would have had to turn a lot of people away. The inclusiveness of the this online community has always been something that has drawn us to online media and one of the things that drove Jenni to create Celebrate the Web in the beginning.

Without further ado, the official Participating Teams of CTW6 (listed by Team Name followed by Team Leader in alphabetical order by Team):

–60°: Simon Fraser
–Transplant Productions: Dan Ingram
–You Dropped Your Pants: Thomas Davis

We launched the kick-off of the week-long event just a few hours ago and the teams are already hard at work. We look forward to seeing the Tweets, sharing the pictures and watching the pilots to see what each and everyone of them come up with. Don’t forget to keep us updated!

For those regretting not getting their team in on time, or who just want to join in the fun – it’s not too late! Tweet @CelebrateTheWeb, Tag #CTW6, the teams have only just begun and there’s always some kind of help that can be offered and we’re always up to try and connect anyone we can. In this time and with this medium we are not limited by geography, time zone or language. Production may be done in Los Angeles, Missouri or Italy but post could be done from anywhere, design could be done from anywhere.

Go get ‘em. Can’t wait to see what shows up in the Inbox in the next week!

How the teams chose to use these creative elements is at their discretion but each of the 3 elements must be utilized prominently.

Hey, everyone –

As our submissions phase comes to a close (don’t forget to get those submission fees in, if you need assistance on that send us an e-mail at celebratetheweb@gmail.com), we will thus begin production on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 @ 10:00am, starting with our livestream of CTW 6′ s pilot elements, courtesy of TheLip.TV! The livestream can be found here.

At that point, we will unveil our chosen elements that you will have to incorporate into your pilot! Then, we’ll announce that it’s time to go into production, and then, well, we turn the festival over to you. This is your time to shine!

Some other notes to keep in mind ahead of your production week:

Get all up in social media! On Twitter, use the hashtag #CTW6; we’ll feature some of the best posts we find!

Want to livestream your behind the scenes action? Feel free to do so and send us the link!

Feel like doing some interviews? Those you can post at any time! (The actual pilot, you’ll be given instructions for upload. Be sure to follow those carefully.)

Stay hydrated, particularly you Angelenos! It’s going to be 70s-80s in Los Angeles all throughout production week (and 80s-90s in the San Fernando Valley – yikes!), so if you’re shooting outside, be sure to bring plenty of water!

Have fun!

With the submissions deadline approaching, we wanted to clarify the premise of the competition based on some comments we were receiving. We’d hate for anyone to disqualify themselves unintentionally, so here’s a brief breakdown of Celebrate The Web for the uninitiated.

However, keep in mind that you are competing for a development meeting with Machinima, the one of the number one all-time Entertainment Channels on YouTube, and VidCon, which will be taking over the Anaheim Convention Center this year. This is a fantastic opportunity that many wouldn’t get otherwise. By no means are we trying to discourage you, yet if you want to get in the door with a company whose channel gets one billion views a year, we think you should probably know what a pilot is already.

From May 10th to May 17th, you will write, shoot, edit and upload a pilot for a web series.

In previous festivals, we were restricted to five minute pilots. We are not in this festival.

You are prohibited from any creative work prior to May 10th. That includes writing of all sorts. You may acquire your team, actors included, but no prior writing.

On May 10th, at 10am, we will live-stream the announcement of three elements that your pilot will be required to incorporate. For examples of elements (and more specific creative rules), please see our previous CTW’s elements announcement. How you choose to use the elements we provide (you will not know what they are ahead of time) is entirely up to your discretion, but they all must be prominently featured.

All footage must be shot within the 7-day period. No stock footage or anything filmed at a different time may be used.

Just to make it triple-clear: this is a brand-new pilot you are creating. You are making a pilot completely from scratch. This is why we will not give you the elements until the first day of competition – to ensure that the pilot you are working on is not a previously-produced series.

No cast or crew member may be on multiple teams. There’s no limit to the number of people you may have on your team, or the number of roles they play within your team, but one team only.

You must pay the $50 submission fee prior to the start of the competition.

This time around, all teams that enter and pay their submission fee will be accepted.

The team will retain full rights to their content.

All costs of the production are the team’s responsibility.

If you have any questions, comment in here and we’ll try to answer them on this page as best we can!

With CTW 6: LEVEL UP’s submissions deadline approaching, we want to make sure that you are able to bring in the most talented individuals into your Celebrate The Web pilots. It’s important to all of us that no one is excluded from the festival due to conflicts with one’s union status, so SAG-AFTRA New Media and Celebrate The Web worked out a solution!

We are happy to report that SAG-AFTRA New Media, as discussed previously, has worked with us to simplify and expedite the process of becoming a Signatory of SAG-AFTRA New Media. Producers looking to hire SAG-AFTRA members in their Celebrate The Web submissions do need to become signatory to the SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement, and SAG-AFTRA has made that process as streamlined as possible for CTW.

Simply download and sign the form attached (do not worry about it saying just SAG New Media; SAG-AFTRA has assured us that they are still using that particular form for this purpose), and submit it to newmedia@sagaftra.org. No fee is required to sign the agreement, and SAG-AFTRA has agreed to expedite the processing of Celebrate The Web productions.

On the form there are questions that you may not know the answer to because we haven’t revealed the creative parameters of your pilot. Fill in as much information as you can, and if you don’t have the answer, don’t worry, leave it blank and it can be discussed later with a SAG-AFTRA rep at a later point.

So remember, you have to be a SAG-AFTRA New Media signatory to have SAG-AFTRA actors in your production, but they’ve made it really simple to do so!

Download the form below:

Hey, everyone!

There have been a few questions about the SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement for Celebrate the Web, so we’d like to provide you with some information that could prove helpful!

It is not a requirement to sign the SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement to enter the competition.

The agreement being offered to entrants is the standard SAG-AFTRA New Media Agreement, and all standard rules, including eligibility rules, apply. Whether it’s outside or in CTW, the agreement is the same.

What’s different about CTW is that they’ve expedited the signing process. The paperwork itself is the same as any.

Because eligibility concerns are unique to each actor, there’s no boilerplate answer to anyone’s “must-join” worries. SAG-AFTRA New Media has let us know that you should pass along any concerns about your or your actor’s “must join” status directly to them via e-mail (newmedia@sagaftra.org) by phone at 323-549-6446. Don’t be afraid to get in touch with them – they’re literally the experts on this stuff and will be able to figure out what you would need to do to help keep your eligibility and career in New Media on track.

Whatever help you need, don’t hesitate to get in touch with SAG-AFTRA New Media! They’re here specifically to help you out!
