Posted by Jenni Powell on February 02, 2011 in events
What: A ‘Web Pilot Festival’ where a team has one week to write, shoot, edit and deliver a pilot episode for a web series. The theme and guidelines for the web series pilot will be revealed at the beginning of the festival via livestream.
Who: The 1st 12 qualified teams to submit on the Celebrate the Web site on our new submission page.
When: Submissions period for teams is from February 2nd to 19th. Festival begins March 3rd at TBD with final pilot delivered at 9 AM March 9th. The screening of the pilots and the voting for the winner will take place the evening of March 10th at ACME Comedy Theatre, the home of the very first Celebrate the Web!
Cash prize will be awarded to winning team thanks to blip.tv and additional perks will be announced closer to start of festival!
Having participated in 24 and 48 hour Film Festivals in the past, I have always been fascinated by the unique opportunity it creates to get your head into a creative space very quickly and motivates you to think outside the box and forces you to become an expert problem solver. Since the very first Celebrate the Web, I’ve wanted to play with this concept and apply it to the web entertainment space. Thanks to Taryn, Stephanie, and Kim supporting this idea and working with me to hone the format, we now want to make it a reality!
So Celebrate the Web is extremely proud to present it’s fourth event: “Raising the Bar”, a week-long ‘Web Festival’ similar to a 48 hour Film Festival- where the participants have one week, upon receiving a theme or topic, to shoot and deliver a pilot (no longer than 5 minutes) for a web series. Armed with this pilot, we hope creators will have the first building blocks in place to build the next generation of successful and thriving content on the web.
The festival will begin on Thursday March 3rd with the teams receiving their instructions and themes via livestream from a TBD location. We will have an announcement about where this will take place a few days beforehand.
The final uploads to our server would take place (as of now) Wednesday March 9th by 8am. The screening of the pilots would take place Thursday night, March 10th, at the ACME Theatre – with a reception afterwards at the Amalfi restaurant next door, thus having us return to the site of the very first Celebrate the Web in 2010. We couldn’t think of a better way to experience and showcase the products of this brand new foray into our space. Information on presale tickets for the screening will be coming soon.
blip.tv is returning as a sponsor to the event as well as providing a generous cash prize to the winning team. We are in the works of offering additional benefits and prizes to content creators of winning pieces, which will be voted on by the audience and those watching at home from the livestream of the event, brought to us by the wonderful setup at the ACME Theatre.
We will be taking team submissions beginning February 2nd and closing February 19th. All that is initially required is a producer to submit contact information and a link to any work they have done on the web. The first 12 qualified producers will then be responsible for forming their crews and assembling the talent. There is no geographical restriction and no limit on the number of people that can be on a team. So please, wherever you are…please submit a team to our new submission page.
Special thanks to Adam Levermore who designed our new logo, revamped the website, and will be creating the advertising materials and programs for the event. You can see his work at http://www.adamlevermore.com.

Will the screening be streamed?
Yes, it will be livestreamed thanks to ACME Comedy Theatre.
Excellent! Thanks Jenni!
So seeing as you’re accepting production teams and not projects this is definitely more of a producer challenge. I still think it would be a fun challenge to write something even if you weren’t an official entrant. Will the show concept/topic be made public?
We will be livestreaming the show concept/topic so that anyone can participate. If you write something, if you get it to us we’ll be sure to post it here even if you don’t have the resources to produce it, if you’d like!
These type of contests are great because you get to see what quality content can be created in such a short period of time! The 24 or 48 hour race is a bit short, but a full week should spawn some interesting creations!
